It’s not easy to be woman in Nigerian music industry – Skales

Skales Acknowledges Challenges Faced by Female Artists in Nigerian Music Industry

Singer Skales has expressed appreciation for his female colleagues in the Nigerian music industry, recognizing the difficulties they encounter. His remarks follow a widely circulated podcast interview featuring singer Fave, who discussed the unique challenges faced by women in the industry.

In a post on his X account on Thursday, Skales wrote, “Big up all the females in the entertainment industry… it ain’t easy being a woman in this industry… big up to y’all for real.”

During the Afropolitan podcast, Fave noted that female artists often face additional scrutiny compared to their male counterparts, as they are assessed based on both their musical talent and their sex appeal. She emphasized the significant hurdles that female artists must navigate to achieve success.

Fave, along with fellow artists Tems and Ayra Starr, asserted that they have helped reshape the perception of female musicians within the Afrobeats genre. “When Tems, I, and Ayra Starr came into the scene, we brought different voices that diverged from the feminine style that was previously expected,” she said, highlighting their impact on the industry’s landscape.
