Singapore Invites Nigerian President to Strengthen Bilateral Relations
Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam has formally invited Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to visit the city-state as part of ongoing efforts to enhance bilateral relations and broaden areas of cooperation between the two nations.
The invitation was announced by Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Jimoh Ibrahim, in a statement released by the Nigerian Mission in New York.
Ambassador Burhan Gafoor, Singapore’s Permanent Representative to the UN, conveyed the invitation through a letter from President Shanmugaratnam during his visit to the Nigerian Permanent Mission House.
In his remarks, Ibrahim expressed gratitude to the Singaporean government for the invitation and assured Gafoor that he would relay the message to President Tinubu. He indicated that the president is expected to make time for the visit in the near future.
Ibrahim highlighted that the Tinubu administration’s ongoing economic reforms have attracted significant international attention, including interest from Singapore, particularly in the realms of multilateralism and national development. He also noted similarities between the ambitious economic reforms under Tinubu and the transformative policies implemented by Singapore’s founding Prime Minister, Lee Kuan Yew.
