Cristiano Ronaldo, the captain of the Portugal national football team, revealed he contemplated retiring from international play after the 2026 World Cup. However, following discussions with the team president and head coach Jorge Jesus, Ronaldo has decided to continue his international career.
“I thought about retiring from international football after the World Cup,” the 41-year-old forward stated. “But I spoke to the president and coach, and I am still here. I am an asset; I can help.”
Ronaldo is scheduled to participate in the upcoming UEFA Nations League matches for Portugal. He expressed a commitment to inspiring younger players, asserting that his influence on the next generation remains a priority.
“The young kids love me because they see me as an example, and that for me is the most important thing,” he said. “I will continue to do that even when I retire after 10 years.”
