Police arrest suspected fraudster, recover 25 ATM cards, others in Ogun
Operatives from the Igbesa Division of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested 45-year-old Ameachi Anthony in connection with an alleged fraud scheme amounting to 2.5 million naira.
The arrest was announced in a statement on Sunday by the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi. According to the statement, law enforcement officials recovered 25 ATM cards and several mobile phones from the suspect.
Preliminary investigations suggest that Anthony was involved in a fraudulent operation that utilized utility bills and newly acquired SIM cards to open bank accounts, which were then used to facilitate unauthorized transactions with the ATM cards.
On September 22, 2026, police apprehended Anthony as part of their investigation into this fraud case. Following the arrest, Anthony and the recovered evidence were transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Eleweran for further examination.
In a separate incident on the same day, SWAT operatives arrested 34-year-old Peter Olanrewaju regarding a suspected cult-related gathering. This investigation also resulted in the arrest of 36-year-old Adebayo Sodiq, along with the seizure of a pump-action rifle and two locally manufactured pistols.
Babaseyi indicated that investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the possession of the firearms and to identify any other individuals potentially linked to the case.
State Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, praised the officers for their diligence and professionalism, reiterating the Command’s dedication to proactive policing.
