Former Super Eagles Coach Advises Atletico Madrid on Lookman’s Best Role
Former Super Eagles coach Jose Peseiro has advised Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone on the optimal position for newly acquired Nigerian forward Ademola Lookman. The club signed Lookman from Atalanta during the January transfer window.
Lookman, who can operate as a winger or in various attacking roles, has been noted for his versatility. However, Peseiro asserts that his most effective position is as a striker.
In an interview with Marca, Peseiro stated, “On the wing, he creates imbalance and makes good diagonal runs, but his best position is as a striker.” He emphasized Lookman’s ability to excel in “inside channels” where he can effectively shoot, dribble, or provide assists.
Peseiro also highlighted Lookman’s strong footwork and his physicality, which were evident during his debut for Atletico. He noted that these attributes pose particular challenges for defenders, including those from rival teams like Barcelona.
