Sign of worsening insecurity – Peter Obi demands rescue of 20 abducted NYSC members

NDC Presidential Candidate Calls for Rescue of Abducted Youth Corps Members
Peter Obi, the presidential candidate for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has demanded the immediate and safe rescue of approximately 20 prospective National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members who were reportedly abducted while en route to their orientation camp.
In a post shared on his official X account on Sunday, Obi condemned the kidnapping as a further indication of the growing insecurity in Nigeria. He emphasized that young individuals preparing to serve their country should not have to navigate their journeys in fear.
Obi remarked, “These young Nigerians were preparing to serve their nation, but they were unable to travel safely on our roads. Families are increasingly burdened by the fear that their loved ones could fall victim to kidnapping.”
He stressed the government’s primary responsibility to protect lives and property, urging authorities to take swift action to ensure the safe return of the abducted corps members and to apprehend those responsible for the incident.
“We cannot continue to regard insecurity as an ordinary occurrence or act only after people’s lives have been disrupted,” Obi stated, underscoring the need for a safer environment for Nigeria’s youth to travel, work, and serve their nation without fear.
Obi reaffirmed his call for urgent action, insisting on the immediate and safe rescue of the abducted individuals.
