Intelligent content no longer works in Nigeria – Tekno

Afrobeats artist Austine Kelechi, known as Tekno Miles, has defended the trending phenomenon referred to as “brain-rot content” or Olodo Uprising, asserting it offers more entertainment value compared to intellectual material.
In a recent interview with Yanga FM Lagos, the singer, famous for his hit “Pana,” argued that intellectual content is no longer resonating with audiences in Nigeria.
He noted that comedy and entertainment have never required high intellect, emphasizing that many Nigerians adore Nollywood comedians such as Nkem Owo, also known as Osuofia, and John Okafor, commonly called Mr. Ibu, for their goofy personas rather than for scholarly attributes.
“Intellectual content no longer works,” Tekno stated. “What use is your intellect? I could watch Carter Efe for hours, laughing at his antics because that’s what’s interesting. In the past, when you watched Osuofia and Mr. Ibu, what drew you to them? Was it not their silliness?”
His remarks reflect a growing trend in entertainment preferences, prioritizing humor and lightheartedness over more traditional, intellectual forms of content.
