Anambra Govt never gave me pure water sachet, only insults since leaving office – Peter Obi

Peter Obi, the presidential candidate for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), claimed that the Anambra State government has not offered him any support since he left office 13 years ago. Instead, he stated that government officials have directed accusations and insults towards him.

Obi first assumed the governorship of Anambra State on March 17, 2006, but was impeached in November of that year. Virginia Etiaba served briefly as the acting governor during his absence. He returned to office on February 9, 2007, after a court overturned the impeachment.

His tenure experienced another interruption later in 2007 due to Andy Uba’s brief administration, but Obi was reinstated in June 2007 to serve out his term. In 2010, he won reelection for a second term and handed over power to Willie Obiano on March 17, 2014.

Recently, the current administration under Governor Chukwuma Soludo has accused Obi of leaving debts when he departed from office. Obi, however, has refuted these claims.

In a video that has circulated widely, Obi expressed his frustration, stating that he has not received any acknowledgment for his contributions during his time as governor. He noted, “The least I can get is a little bit of support in what I’m doing. I left Anambra State 13 years ago without even being given a sachet of pure water, nor even a Christmas card. Yet, I have never had peace.”

Obi defended his record, asserting that he saved $150 million for the state during his tenure and lamented the continued insults he faces instead of gratitude.
