Sharks outlast Red V despite Dufty magic

St George Illawarra fullback Matt Dufty has ripped apart the Sharks’ defence and given his side’s victory chances a major boost with a brilliant 50-metre solo try in the second half.

The 25-year-old passed to Bent Hunt at halfback but received the ball back from Hunt just seconds later, before slicing through tired Cronulla forwards.

The lethal No.1 then hit top speed, proving too quick and evasive for opposition fullback Will Kennedy and winger Sione Katoa, and dotted down to the left of the uprights as he outmuscled Ronaldo Mulitalo.

“What a run by Matt Dufty!” Fox League commentator Warren Smith said, before Zac Lomax converted to make things 14-12.

“There are scorch marks down the middle of Kogarah. He burnt the turf and they are right back in it!”
