Ebola Patient, Spouse Arrive Safely In Switzerland — Pate

Ebola Patient Evacuated from Nigeria Receives Care in Switzerland

Switzerland has confirmed the safe arrival of an Ebola patient and her spouse evacuated from Nigeria. Muhammad Ali Pate, Nigeria’s Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, announced the news via a statement on his official X account on Monday, October 26.

According to the minister, the patient is receiving treatment at Geneva University Hospitals, while her spouse is in isolation at University Hospital Zurich. Pate stated that Swiss authorities verified their safe arrival.

“The Swiss authorities have confirmed that the patient and her spouse arrived safely in Switzerland today,” he said. “She is receiving care at Geneva University Hospitals, while her spouse is in isolation at University Hospital Zurich.”

Pate noted that Switzerland expressed gratitude for the medical care provided by Nigerian health workers and highlighted the cooperation between the two countries that facilitated the evacuation.

During a recent telephone conversation, Federal Councillor Elisabeth Baume-Schneider conveyed Switzerland’s appreciation for the care offered by Nigerian health professionals. Pate mentioned the collaboration among Nigerian and Swiss clinical and public health teams, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC), and the World Health Organization (WHO) that enabled the successful evacuation.

The minister extended his well wishes for the patient’s ongoing recovery. Despite the evacuation, he assured that public health surveillance and containment efforts are continuing in Nigeria.

“Here in Nigeria, contact monitoring, investigation of alerts, and other containment measures continue, with support from Africa CDC and WHOAFRO,” Pate said. He emphasized that the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare and the NCDC would keep the public informed about the situation.

TVC News previously reported that Pate confirmed the evacuation of the first imported Ebola virus disease case from Nigeria to Switzerland. He described the patient as “clinically much improved, stable, conscious, communicating,” while urging the public to remain vigilant and rely on information from credible sources.

Regular updates on the situation will be provided through NCDC and the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, Pate said.
