Bauchi Police Arrest Man in Connection with Abduction and Rape Case
Bauchi, Nigeria — Authorities in Bauchi State have arrested a 24-year-old man, Jafar Mohammed, for his alleged involvement in the abduction and rape of a 16-year-old girl. The suspect, who resides in Zango Ward of Bauchi metropolis, was apprehended in October 2026 in the Hayin Rigasa area of Igabi Local Government Area in Kaduna State.
According to the police, the incident was reported on September 3, 2026, when a 35-year-old woman from Makwalla Ward notified authorities that her younger sister had been missing since August 5. State Criminal Investigation Department detectives traced the missing girl’s mobile number, which led them to discover that it was in the suspect’s possession in Abuja.
In a statement released Wednesday, police spokesperson SP Nafiu Habib reported that the girl returned home on August 8, accusing Mohammed of luring her with false promises of marriage before engaging in sexual activity with her without consent.
Habib stated that the suspect was taken into custody following intelligence-led operations and has confessed to the allegations during questioning. The investigation is ongoing and is being handled by the Gender Laboratory of the State Criminal Investigation Department in Bauchi.
Commissioner of Police Sani-Omolori Aliyu affirmed the command’s commitment to combat gender-based violence and other forms of abuse against minors. He assured the community that justice would prevail and urged parents to closely monitor their children’s activities.
