Bashir Ahmad calls for arrest of popular pastor over AK-47 comment in viral video

Bashir Ahmad, a former aide to the Nigerian presidency, has urged security agencies to act swiftly in response to a viral video featuring a pastor who allegedly encouraged Nigerian youths to arm themselves for self-defense. The video, which has raised alarms among observers, features Pastor Jemimah David addressing her congregation in Plateau State, advocating that young people defend themselves when under attack.

Ahmad characterized the remarks as “unfortunate and disturbing,” expressing concern that such statements could incite violence in the region. The video has gained significant attention on social media, prompting widespread discussion regarding its implications.

In a post on his official X account, Ahmad referenced a previous incident involving a young Muslim’s viral video that many deemed inciting. He noted that individuals across various faiths condemned that content and called for action from security authorities.

He expressed his concern about a religious leader making similar remarks, emphasizing the potential consequences such statements can have. “I sincerely hope the relevant security agencies will take note of this video and take appropriate action in accordance with the law,” Ahmad stated.

The ongoing security crisis in Nigeria has led some religious leaders to advise their followers on self-defense strategies in light of increasing attacks from criminal elements.
