Tinubu went to Mecca with only Northern Govs, cabinet full of Yorubas, height of hypocrisy – Atiku’s aide
Phrank Shaibu, Special Assistant on Public Communications to Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate for the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has criticized President Bola Tinubu for his recent Umrah pilgrimage to Mecca, Saudi Arabia.
In an interview on Channels Television’s “Politics Today” on Monday, Shaibu claimed that President Tinubu’s decision to travel with only Northern governors was a politically motivated move. He described the trip as hypocritical, given that the president’s cabinet predominantly consists of individuals from the Yoruba ethnic group.
“President Tinubu traveled to Mecca accompanied solely by Northern governors, while his cabinet is largely made up of Yoruba individuals. That is the height of hypocrisy,” Shaibu said.
Shaibu further asserted that the president intentionally selected Northern governors for the trip to strengthen his political standing in the northern region of Nigeria. He argued that Tinubu, aware of the criticism regarding an alleged ethnic imbalance in his administration, aimed to use the Umrah trip to counteract those narratives.
“If President Tinubu genuinely believes in inclusion, his cabinet should not be predominantly composed of members from his own ethnic group,” Shaibu stated.
