Delta Police Commissioner Clarifies Arrest of Suspected Impersonator in Teenager’s Defilement Case

WARRI, Nigeria – Delta State Commissioner of Police Samuel Etaifo Erale confirmed that Ezekiel Pius, a suspect arrested in connection with the alleged defilement of a 15-year-old girl, is not a police officer. Erale made the statement via a WhatsApp message to a DAILY POST correspondent while on a tour of the state.

The case has been referred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation, according to the police commissioner. “The suspect is not a police officer. The case has been transferred to SCID for proper investigation,” he stated.

Ezekiel Pius was apprehended by operatives from the Effurun Area Command in Uvwie Local Government Area. He was reportedly posing as a mobile policeman while on guard duty at a private school near Regal Clinic along Jakpa Road in Effurun.

Sources indicate that the suspect allegedly molested the victim on multiple occasions, threatening her with harm if she disclosed the incidents to anyone, including her parents. The situation came to light when the victim confided in a friend, who subsequently informed her parents.

Warri-based human rights activist Comrade Israel Joe has called for a thorough investigation into the matter to ensure the suspect faces the full consequences of the law. In a statement posted on Facebook, Joe also urged authorities to look into how Pius obtained police uniforms and weapons. “Information available to me is that he isn’t a real police officer,” he wrote.
