Serve Nigeria with patriotism, sense of responsibility – Gov Adeleke to NYSC members

Governor Ademola Adeleke, represented by Youth Affairs Commissioner Moshood Olalekan Olagunju, addressed newly sworn-in National Youth Service Corps members during an orientation course at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Ede on Friday.

The governor urged the corps members to view their deployment in Osun as an opportunity to contribute to the state and the nation, rather than simply fulfilling a national obligation.

Adeleke commended the NYSC leadership and corps members for their professionalism during the August 15, 2026, governorship election in Osun State. He noted their neutrality, stating, “The Scheme demonstrated professionalism, neutrality and discipline throughout the electoral process. I particularly appreciate the Corps Members who served without partisanship and discharged their responsibilities with commendable dedication.”

He emphasized the importance of the corps members’ conduct, asserting it showcases the trustworthiness of Nigerian youth when tasked with significant national responsibilities.

The governor reiterated his administration’s commitment to the well-being and security of the corps members. He assured them that ongoing renovations at the Ede orientation camp would continue, adding, “We recognize the importance of providing Corps Members with facilities that are safe, functional and befitting of their status as young Nigerians serving their fatherland.”

Earlier, NYSC Osun State Coordinator Ekeng Ita Kubiangha reported that 3,333 prospective corps members had registered for the orientation as of Friday, with additional participants from Lagos State. He called on the corps members to adhere to camp regulations, highlighting that any actions jeopardizing their safety would not be tolerated.

“Discipline is central to the NYSC programme,” Kubiangha stated, urging participants to respect camp rules and regulations, follow instructions from camp officials and security personnel, and conduct themselves responsibly. He warned against cultism, drug abuse, fighting, sexual harassment, and unauthorized movement, while emphasizing that the orientation programme would include military drills, physical training, lectures, skills acquisition, and entrepreneurship development.

Kubiangha encouraged active participation in the program, explaining, “The Orientation Course is designed to prepare you mentally, physically, and socially for the responsibilities ahead.” He expressed gratitude to the Osun State Government for its support in renovating the orientation camp and reminded corps members to remain vigilant and use social media responsibly.

“Osun State remains committed to providing a safe environment for corps members, but personal responsibility is equally important,” he said. “Keep your supervisors and NYSC officials informed of security concerns, avoid unnecessary risks, and adhere strictly to security advisories.”
