Nigerian Army Carries Out Successful Operations Against Terrorists
KONTAGORA, Niger State – Troops from the Nigerian Army have successfully conducted operations in Niger State, leading to the recovery of significant military equipment and the rescue of 16 victims from terrorist groups.
In a statement released on November 5, 2026, Captain Adebayo Adewumi, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the 18 Brigade, described the initial operation, which targeted the movement of terrorists from Mashegu Local Government Area towards Rijiyan Nagwamatse in Kontagora. The operation commenced based on intelligence reports about terrorist activities in the area.
During this operation, military personnel engaged the armed criminals, resulting in the neutralization of an unconfirmed number of them, as well as the recovery of two AK-47 rifles, three rocket-propelled grenade bombs, 33 motorcycles, assorted ammunition, and ₦4,105,000 in cash.
On November 3, prior to the operation in Kontagora, troops intercepted a group of terrorists moving from Makuku Village in Sakaba Local Government Area of Kebbi State toward Tungan Kawo in Rijau Local Government Area of Niger State. Following a fierce firefight, the attackers retreated into nearby forests, sustaining various degrees of injuries from gunfire.
After the engagement, a search of the area yielded five additional motorcycles, a mobile phone, and ₦644,300 in cash, along with other items. The rescued victims received first aid and were handed over to appropriate authorities for reunification with their families. The seized items are currently in military custody for further investigation.
Commander of the 18 Brigade commended the troops for their bravery and dedication, encouraging them to maintain their operational momentum in order to eliminate criminal elements within the brigade’s area of responsibility.
The statement elaborated on how these operations highlight the effectiveness of the Nigerian Army’s ongoing expansion efforts, enhancing its ability to address security threats and protect local communities while disrupting the logistics of criminal networks.
