Army Chief Commends 4 Brigade Troops for Operational Effectiveness

Benin City, Edo State — Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), praised the professionalism and discipline of the Nigerian Army’s 4 Brigade during his inaugural operational visit on Friday. The visit took place at the brigade’s headquarters in Benin City and focused on their efforts in maintaining security in Edo State.

During his address, Shaibu assured personnel of enhanced welfare and improved working conditions. He emphasized plans to renovate accommodations for soldiers, aiming to ensure they live in comfortable and decent environments. In addition, he announced the provision of a new bus to alleviate transportation challenges faced by the brigade.

Shaibu reiterated the Nigerian Army’s commitment to guaranteeing that service members and their families have access to functional medical facilities, including healthcare for their children. He indicated that soldier welfare is essential for operational effectiveness, which is a key priority under his “Soldiers First” agenda.

However, the COAS urged the troops to reflect the Army’s commitment to their well-being by maintaining discipline, professionalism, and loyalty in their duties. He called on them to conduct operations in accordance with legal provisions, respect civilian rights, and protect innocent citizens while addressing criminal elements within their assigned areas.

Shaibu also commended the 4 Brigade troops for their conduct, citing their discipline and achievements as instrumental in rebuilding public confidence in the Nigerian Army. He commended Brigadier General Ahmed Balogun, the brigade commander, for his leadership and effective coordination with sister security agencies, highlighting the importance of such collaboration in his command philosophy.

Earlier, Balogun welcomed Shaibu and provided an overview of the current security situation within the brigade’s area of responsibility, as well as the administrative and logistical challenges it faces. He expressed gratitude for the Army chief’s visit and the promises of improved welfare, reinforcing his commitment to maintaining operational gains and strengthening existing security efforts in Edo State.

The visit concluded with the signing of the visitors’ book, a presentation of souvenirs, a tree-planting exercise, and group photographs.
