UCL: Alan Shearer disagrees with ex-referee, Clattenburg over Vinicius’ racist claims against Prestianni

Former Referee Critiques Vinicius Junior’s Conduct Following Racist Remarks
Former referee Mark Clattenburg has expressed concerns over Real Madrid forward Vinicius Junior’s actions during a recent match against Benfica, citing that the player may have instigated tensions with the home fans. Clattenburg made his remarks during an analysis for Amazon Prime following Real Madrid’s 1-0 victory in Portugal on Tuesday night.
Clattenburg suggested that Vinicius’s celebration after scoring the decisive goal may have prompted racist comments directed at him, specifically referencing a remark made by Benfica player Gianluca Prestianni. His position, however, has incited criticism on social media platforms.
Former Premier League striker Alan Shearer responded to Clattenburg’s comments, asserting that racial abuse in football should never be excused. “What’s gone on is there have been words said between the players,” Clattenburg noted, affirming that Vinicius had informed the referee of the comments, prompting official protocol to be followed regarding racial incidents.
“He will now make sure that this has been reported,” Clattenburg added, emphasizing the challenges referees face once a player raises a complaint. “The problem in this situation is he’s made it difficult for the referee.”
Shearer countered Clattenburg’s analysis, acknowledging that while Vinicius’s celebration may have provoked the crowd, it does not justify any racist comments made. “We don’t know what has been said to him,” he remarked.
The incident continues to spark discussion regarding player conduct and the responsibility of officials in addressing racial abuse in football.
