Man bags six months imprisonment for stealing of N240,000

Ado-Ekiti Court Sentences Man for Conversion of Funds and Breach of Peace
Ado-Ekiti, Nigeria — An Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court sentenced 40-year-old Yusuf Muhammed to six months in prison on Tuesday for the conversion of funds and breach of peace.
Chief Magistrate Dolamu Babalogbon delivered the sentence after Muhammed pleaded guilty to the charge of fund conversion but not guilty to the breach of peace charge. In addition to his prison term, Muhammed was ordered to reimburse the complainant, Isia Abdullahi, the sum of 240,000 naira.
The court heard that the offenses occurred in November 2025 in the Lekeleke area of Ado-Ekiti. According to the prosecution, Inspector Olubu Apata, Muhammed sold provision items valued at 240,000 naira, which belonged to Abdullahi, and allegedly used the proceeds for personal purposes.
Inspector Apata also stated that Muhammed’s actions created a situation likely to disturb the peace. Abdullahi had entrusted his provision store to Muhammed while he traveled, expecting the proceeds to be returned upon his return.
The court found that Muhammed’s actions violated Section 295 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.
