Man beheads 18-year-old cousin in Edo over unresolved disputes in Katsina State

Edo State Laborer Arrested for Murder of Cousin

Edo State authorities have reported the arrest of 25-year-old Ibrahim Oseni in connection with the murder of his 18-year-old cousin, Hassan Suleiman. The incident occurred on February 19, 2026, in the Evbuoarue community, located in the Orhionmwon Local Government Area.

According to the Edo State Security Corps (ESSC), Oseni allegedly killed Suleiman following a dispute that originated in their hometown of Katsina State in late 2025. The deputy commander of operations for the Corps, Richard Balogun, confirmed the details of the case.

Oseni, who was apprehended by operatives from the Evbuoarue unit of the Igbae Sector Command, reportedly confessed to the murder. He is alleged to have lured Suleiman to a remote area under the pretense of obtaining herbs for a stomach ailment. Once there, Oseni is accused of using a cutlass to behead his cousin before fleeing the scene with Suleiman’s mobile phone and 36,000 Naira in cash.

Witnesses reported that Suleiman was declared missing by his associates in Evbuoarue following the incident. Suspicion arose when Oseni informed local residents of the situation and led them to the location of the murder, prompting them to alert the ESSC.

Balogun further stated that the weapon used in the crime was discovered hidden under Oseni’s sleeping mat, and Suleiman’s phone was later recovered from a concealed location. The case has been forwarded to the Ugo Divisional Police Headquarters for further investigation and prosecution.
