Plateau: Seven killed, three critically injured as bandits go on rampage

Seven Killed in Attack on Plateau State Community
DOROWA BABUJE, Plateau State – At least seven people were killed and three more critically injured during a violent attack in the Ratatis community on Sunday evening, local officials confirmed on Monday.
Residents reported that armed assailants, believed to be Fulani militias, invaded the area around 7:30 p.m. Witnesses described a chaotic scene as the attackers fired indiscriminately for hours, resulting in significant destruction, including the burning of homes and farmland.
Albert Dung, a resident, spoke to DAILY POST about the incident, stating, “The attackers shot sporadically, killing seven people instantly while others were critically injured and later taken to a hospital.”
Dung noted that prior to the assault, there had been warnings regarding a potential invasion, prompting residents to contact the Barkin Ladi Sector Command of the Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP). However, he claimed that their distress calls went unanswered.
“There was a warning alert, and calls were made to the Barkin Ladi Sector Command, but they refused to respond,” he said. “As a result, the bandits had a field day and operated for several hours unchecked.”
Rwang Tengwong, National Publicity Secretary of the Berom Youths Moulder Association (BYM), also confirmed the attack in a statement. He urged security forces to enhance their efforts in safeguarding rural communities against future violence and expressed solidarity with the victims’ families.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the victims and the entire Berom community during this dark time,” Tengwong added.
