Bauchi Governor Responds to Violent Attacks in Alkaleri Local Government Area
BAUCHI, Nigeria — Following a series of violent incidents involving the deaths of security personnel and civilians, as well as numerous abductions, Governor Alhaji Bala Mohammed visited the Ghana District of Alkaleri Local Government Area on Tuesday to assess the situation.
During his visit, Governor Mohammed called for immediate intervention from the Federal Government to help safeguard the affected communities from ongoing bandit attacks. He addressed the grieving residents, describing the recent violence as both unfortunate and painful, particularly as it occurred in his home area of Duguri.
The governor expressed that local security agencies are currently overwhelmed and require enhanced weapons and logistical support to effectively combat banditry across the region. He noted that he had previously briefed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on the insecurity issues facing the state during an official visit to Abuja, stating that the president extended condolences to the families of the victims and assured them of federal support.
Governor Mohammed highlighted that while banditry has notably declined in areas such as Toro, Ningi, Ganjuwa, and Jama’are, the recent resurgence of attacks in Duguri poses a significant concern. He commended the bravery of the Kafin Duguri community, noting their resistance forced the attackers to retreat. He praised the community for their resilience and deep connection to their land, primarily reliant on agriculture for their livelihoods.
The governor assured residents that his administration would not rest until peace is restored in Duguri and its surrounding areas. He announced plans to recruit and train additional local vigilantes in collaboration with the police. Furthermore, he confirmed that the Bauchi State Government will cover the medical expenses of the injured victims.
In closing, Governor Mohammed offered prayers for those who lost their lives and urged community members to remain united and cooperate with security forces as efforts to secure the area continue. He pledged ongoing collaboration with federal security agencies and traditional rulers to enhance protection and combat banditry.
Commissioner of Police Sani-Omolori Aliyu also addressed the community, urging residents to stay vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activities to security agencies. He emphasized that community cooperation is essential in addressing insecurity and called for synergy with all security organizations to effectively tackle the challenges at hand.
