Lagos Govt announces traffic plan for Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway reconstruction

Lagos State Government Announces Traffic Management Strategy for Expressway Reconstruction
The Lagos State Government has announced a traffic management strategy to facilitate the reconstruction of the main carriageway between Super Bus-Stop and Ilepo Bus-Stop (inbound Lagos) along the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway.
The project, in coordination with the Federal Ministry of Works, is set to take place from March 7 to May 30, 2026, lasting a total of 12 weeks. As stated in a release by the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation, the affected section of the expressway will be closed to inbound traffic during this period.
To assist motorists, the government has provided alternative routes for Lagos-bound traffic:
-
Option 1: Motorists traveling from Abeokuta/Sango Tollgate to Lagos/Oshodi can divert to the BRT Corridor at Super Bus-Stop, exiting at Pleasure Bus-Stop (Ilepo) to continue their journey.
-
Option 2: Drivers can also utilize Ekoro Road, proceeding through Old Otta Road and Alira Street to connect with Abeokuta Street and reach Pleasure Bus-Stop.
-
Option 3: An additional route is available via Abule Egba Underbridge to Agege, which will enable drivers to access their destinations.
The carriageway heading toward Abeokuta will remain open to traffic throughout the construction. Additionally, emergency tow vehicles will be positioned along the BRT corridor to provide swift recovery assistance for any stranded vehicles.
The Ministry of Transportation is encouraging motorists to exercise patience and adhere to traffic signage. It also requests cooperation with traffic officials stationed along the corridor, aiming to ensure the safe and efficient completion of the reconstruction project designed to improve traffic flow on the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway.
