Turkey: Real reason I rejected Galatasaray captain’s armband – Osimhen

Galatasaray’s Osimhen Declines Captain’s Armband in Victory Over Alanyaspor
ISTANBUL — Victor Osimhen, the striker for Galatasaray, explained his decision to decline the captain’s armband from teammate İlkay Gundogan during Saturday’s match against Alanyaspor, which ended in a 3-1 victory for Galatasaray.
Osimhen played a key role in the win, scoring a goal and providing an assist, helping to extend Galatasaray’s lead at the top of the Turkish Super Lig to five points. In the match, midfielder Lucas Torreira initially wore the captain’s armband before passing it to Gundogan after his substitution in the second half. Gundogan then offered the armband to Osimhen, who opted to return it to his teammate.
During a post-match interview, Osimhen elaborated on his decision. “Ilkay is someone I respect very much, someone very valuable to me. He is an incredible person. He’s both calm and motivating,” he said. “It felt strange when he brought me the captain’s armband. I gave it back to him so he could lead us. He helps us every time he comes into the game. He’s someone who deserves love.”
Galatasaray’s victory solidified their position in the league, with players like Osimhen and Gundogan contributing to the team’s ongoing success.
