INEC Chairman Declares 2023 IREV Glitch Resolved
The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Joash Amupitan, announced on Sunday that the glitch affecting the commission’s Instant Results Viewing (IREV) system during the 2023 elections has been eliminated.
Speaking at a Citizens Town Hall Meeting on the Electoral Act 2026 in Abuja, Amupitan expressed confidence that such issues would not recur in Nigeria. “The glitch in INEC IREV from 2013 has been eliminated, and by God’s grace, it will not surface in Nigeria again,” he stated.
This announcement follows the recent Senate approval of the electronic transmission of election results, which retains manual collation as a backup method.
Additionally, President Bola Tinubu signed the Electoral Act, 2022 (Repeal and Re-Enactment) Bill 2026 into law just a day after its passage by the National Assembly.
