Influence peddling, manipulation, transactional politics have no place in APC – Gov Abiodun

Abiodun Calls for Integrity at APC State Congress

Abeokuta, Ogun State – Governor Dapo Abiodun emphasized the need for ethical conduct within the All Progressives Congress (APC) during the party’s State Congress held Tuesday at the June 12 Cultural Center.

Abiodun rejected practices such as influence peddling and manipulative politics, stating that these actions threaten the party’s integrity and long-term governance goals. “Such practices may create divisions for short-term advantage but ultimately weaken our institutions and erode trust,” he said.

Addressing newly elected state executive members, he urged them to uphold the party’s constitution and promote unity among members. He described their roles as strategic rather than ceremonial and stressed the importance of transparency and accountability.

“Strengthen structures from ward to state level, ensure inclusiveness of youth and women, and remain accessible,” Abiodun advised, highlighting the need for effective grassroots mobilization.

The Congress was attended by 1,180 delegates and supervised by officials from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Yemi Sanusi was re-elected as chairman under a consensus arrangement. In his acceptance speech, Sanusi promised a collaborative administration that would unify stakeholders and prepare the party for the 2027 general elections.

“This is not a victory for me alone but for the progressive ideals we stand for,” Sanusi stated, assuring that efforts would be made to maintain a united and strong party. Wale Ohu, the returning officer, confirmed the Congress was conducted fairly and in accordance with party regulations, urging the new leadership to prioritize unity ahead of the upcoming electoral cycle.
