Okporojo bloodshed: Ebonyi govt constitutes 19-member committee on boundary demarcation

Ebonyi State Government Forms Committee to Demarcate Disputed Boundary

The Ebonyi State Government has established a 19-member committee to demarcate the disputed boundary between the Okporojo and Amasiri communities.

Governor Francis Nwifuru announced the formation of the committee following an expanded security council meeting held late Thursday at the Old Government House in Abakaliki. He emphasized that the demarcation was necessary, as both communities had previously signed an agreement to address the boundary issue.

Professor Paul Nwobashi, the State Commissioner for Border Peace and Conflict Resolution, will lead the committee. Other members include the State Surveyor General, the Commissioner for Lands and Survey, the Commissioner for Primary and Secondary Education, and the Chairmen of Traditional Rulers Councils from all thirteen local government areas. Chief Sunday Oyibe will serve as the committee’s Secretary.

Additionally, the governor announced that the curfew currently imposed on the Amasiri community will remain in effect until the severed heads of victims from recent killings in Okporojo are recovered. This information was conveyed in a statement issued by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Dr. Monday Uzor.

The council also directed the destruction of all shrines and deities within the Amasiri clan. Stakeholders in the area are required to inform the state government and security agencies of the locations of these shrines.

The expanded security meeting included representatives from various security agencies, traditional leaders, the Elder’s Council, and stakeholders from Okporojo, Amasiri, Akpoha, and Afikpo.
