Bauchi Police Arrest Armed Robbery Suspect
BAUCHI, Nigeria — The Bauchi State Police Command has apprehended a man known as Yakubu Mohammed Auwal, commonly referred to as “World Boy,” in connection with a series of violent robberies throughout the Bauchi metropolis.
In a statement released Thursday, police spokesperson OSP Nafiu Habib reported that Auwal, 22, was arrested on March 8, 2026, around 11:50 a.m. following a distress call. Authorities allege that he stabbed a local resident, Shamsuddeen, in the lap before stealing a Techno POP 5 phone valued at ₦20,000.
Further investigations revealed that Auwal is also linked to Bala Mohammed, another suspect known as “Balagus.” The pair reportedly attacked Ijeoma Neonye in Magaji Quarters on March 7. They are accused of stabbing her before fleeing with an Infinix Smart 7 Plus phone worth ₦120,000, ₦280,000 in cash, and a Rolex wristwatch valued at ₦35,000, among other items.
The police noted that Auwal has a history of criminal activity, including another robbery that occurred on February 22, 2026, during which he and an accomplice, Amir—who remains at large—attacked Usama Abdullahi, stabbing him before taking a Techno POP 5 phone valued at ₦70,000.
Both Auwal and Mohammed have been arrested, while efforts to locate Amir are ongoing. The command highlighted Auwal’s past notoriety for involvement in Sara-Suka thuggery across several neighborhoods in Bauchi. He was previously convicted in 2024 without the option of a fine but returned to the community afterward.
Recovered items from the suspects include two knives, a pair of scissors, and the Techno POP 5 phone belonging to one of the victims.
In a separate incident, 24-year-old Magdalene Pius from Gwallameji reported to the ‘E’ Division Yelwa Police Station that Usama Salihu, 21, threatened her with a knife on March 7 at approximately 6:30 a.m. and stole her Infinix Smart 9 phone, valued at ₦125,000, along with an Itel keypad phone worth ₦15,000. The police later arrested Salihu and recovered the stolen Infinix Smart 9.
The cases are being investigated by the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID). Commissioner of Police Sani-Omolori Aliyu assured residents that efforts to enhance security across the state will continue to ensure public safety.
