Nigerian Troops Destroy Terrorist Hideout in Benue State, Arrest Five Suspects

Benue State, Nigeria — Troops operating under Sector 1 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) conducted a successful clearance operation in the Ukum Local Government Area, destroying a suspected terrorist hideout and apprehending five individuals.

The operation, reported to have taken place around 11:00 a.m. on August 1, targeted several criminal hideouts in the communities of Atombagen, Chito, Tse Kighr, Tse Anaka, and Sabongida Leke, according to security analyst Zagazola Makama.

While the suspected terrorists reportedly fled prior to the arrival of the troops, security personnel continued their efforts and arrested five individuals in Sabongida Leke, who are alleged to have been involved in criminal activities in the region.

“The troops also destroyed the terrorist enclave and numerous life-support structures that were believed to be utilized by the criminals as operational bases,” the report stated.

This operation is part of the military’s ongoing campaign to root out suspected terrorist hideouts and disrupt the logistics networks that support armed groups in Benue State. Military sources indicated that these efforts aim to restrict the movement of criminal organizations within the area and exert pressure on their hidden bases.

The five arrested individuals are currently in military custody and are expected to face further investigation as security agencies continue to seek out additional members of the suspected criminal network.
