Governor Buni Urges High Standards for State Auditors
Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni has called on state auditors to maintain the highest standards of discipline and professional ethics. His remarks were delivered Thursday by Deputy Governor Idi Barde Gubana during a visit from members of the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria (FRCN).
Governor Buni emphasized the vital role of auditors in promoting accountability within governance. He highlighted their responsibilities in preventing fraud, curtailing financial mismanagement, and ensuring the prudent use of public resources.
“Yobe has been recognized for its exemplary fiscal transparency and accountability, earning the title of best state in fiscal transparency, accountability, and sustainability through the World Bank’s SFTAS program,” Buni noted. He mentioned that the state ranked 13th in 2020, 5th in 2021, and achieved 1st place in the 2023 and 2024 assessments.
The governor also acknowledged the efforts of the state auditor general, commending the official for consistently providing professional advice to public office holders to help prevent financial misappropriation and mismanagement.
Musa Kabiru Jemaku, leader of the FRCN delegation and Director of Accounting Standards for the private sector, explained that the council is the apex regulatory body dedicated to enhancing investor confidence. It promotes transparency and ensures compliance with high standards in financial reporting and auditing practices.
Jemaku reiterated the FRCN’s commitment to collaborating with state governments to strengthen accountability frameworks and encourage best practices in financial governance.
