LAGOS — RMB Nigeria Limited has announced that Nigeria will be the focus country for the 2026 edition of the RMB Latitudes Art Fair’s International Focus programme. This annual initiative highlights a different African country to foster cultural exchange and collaboration throughout the continent.
The programme will kick off with a curated exhibition at Yenwa Gallery in Lagos, set to open on March 26, 2026. This event marks the initial phase of a broader project that will connect Nigeria with Southern Africa ahead of the RMB Latitudes Art Fair, which will take place in Johannesburg from May 22 to 24, 2026.
In collaboration with Yenwa Gallery, the programme will feature a selection of contemporary Nigerian artists. Their works will first be displayed in Lagos before transitioning to the Nigeria Pavilion at the fair in Johannesburg.
Organizers indicated that Nigeria Focus is part of the fair’s International Focus programme, designed to link artists, galleries, and cultural practitioners across Africa with collectors, curators, and institutions through various exhibitions and presentations.
Lucy MacGarry, co-founder of Latitudes, emphasized the initiative’s role in promoting deeper engagement with artistic communities across Africa. “Nigeria Focus creates an opportunity to build lasting relationships between artists, collectors, and institutions across our regions while bringing new perspectives into the Fair,” she stated.
Bayo Ajayi, CEO of RMB Nigeria, noted the bank’s commitment to supporting platforms that enhance Africa’s creative economy and encourage collaboration among the continent’s cultural communities.
Ugonna Ibe-Ejiogu, founder of Yenwa Gallery, added that the partnership aims to strengthen connections between Nigeria and the larger African art market, providing artists with opportunities to reach new audiences.
