Governors see Tinubu as ‘tin god’ who’ll secure their future – ADC’s Salihu

Chieftain Critiques Defection of Governors to Ruling Party
Ladan Salihu, a prominent leader of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has expressed concern over governors defecting to the ruling party, suggesting they view President Bola Tinubu as a decisive figure in securing their political futures.
Speaking on The Morning Show on Arise Television on Monday, Salihu noted that some governors believe aligning with Tinubu will ensure their political survival and enhance their chances of winning elections, overshadowing the support that initially brought them to power.
“The history does not lie,” Salihu stated, arguing that mass defections by governors do not guarantee electoral success. He cited past instances in Nigerian political history where such shifts have led to unfavorable outcomes, questioning the motivations behind these moves.
“Why should governors abandon the parties under which they were elected?” Salihu asked, suggesting that these actions stem from strategic calculations ahead of upcoming elections.
He elaborated on the behavior of politicians, indicating that they may overlook the foundational support that enabled their success. “Governors tend to forget the Almighty God who first gave them the power to be there. They have come to view President Bola Tinubu as their ‘tin god,’ believing he can provide the platform for their electoral victories,” Salihu asserted.
He expressed astonishment at the current political climate, emphasizing the need for political leaders to remain grounded in their origins and the support systems that facilitated their rise.
