NDLEA Seizes Large Quantity of Illegal Drugs in Kano

KANO, Nigeria — The Kano Strategic Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has announced the seizure of a substantial cache of illegal drugs believed to have been intended for distribution during the upcoming Sallah celebrations.

The operation took place in the Badawa area of Kano, where NDLEA operatives acted on intelligence regarding the shipment. According to a statement from Assistant Superintendent of Narcotics and Public Relations Officer Sadiq Muhammad Maigatari, the seizure included 75,000 capsules of pregabalin, 556 bottles of codeine, and a significant quantity of cannabis sativa.

The operation was conducted under the direction of Commander DY Lawal, who stated that the actions taken disrupted what could have been a major influx of drugs into the state.

While the principal suspect eluded capture, the NDLEA indicated that authorities are actively monitoring his whereabouts and are committed to locating him to ensure he faces legal consequences.

Commander Lawal emphasized the impact of the seizure on local drug trafficking networks. “This seizure is a serious blow to the cartel’s operations and helps safeguard the community from the dangers posed by these illicit substances,” he remarked. He affirmed the agency’s commitment to combatting drug trafficking in line with directives from NDLEA leadership.

Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa (retired), CON, OFR, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the NDLEA, has underscored the agency’s dedication to fostering a drug-free society.

The command also expressed appreciation to local residents for their support in providing information that aids enforcement efforts. The NDLEA warned individuals involved in drug trafficking to cease their activities, reiterating that the agency will pursue offenders relentlessly.

Residents with information regarding drug trafficking are encouraged to reach out to the Kano Strategic Command through official communication channels.
