Abducted Kogi NECO students, others rescued

Kogi State Government Announces Rescue of Kidnapped Individuals
The Kogi State Government confirmed the rescue of four individuals who were kidnapped during an attack in Olowa, Dekina Local Government Area. The announcement was made by Kingsley Femi Fanwo, the State Commissioner for Information and Communications, in a statement released on Thursday.
Fanwo attributed the successful rescue to a coordinated security operation initiated by Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo shortly after the incident. He reported that Governor Ododo directed the State Security Adviser, Commander Jerry Omodara (retired), to lead a joint rescue mission involving the Nigerian Army, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Police Force, local vigilante groups, and additional security personnel.
“Immediately following the kidnapping, the Governor instructed the State Security Adviser to oversee the operation. The Security Adviser, along with the leadership of the 12 Brigade and the 21 Battalion of the Nigerian Army, the DSS, police, and local security operatives, entered the forest to secure the rescue,” Fanwo stated.
While inspecting newly acquired Armoured Personnel Carriers aimed at enhancing the state’s security, Governor Ododo assured journalists that efforts were underway to secure the victims’ release.
“Just hours later, the victims regained their freedom. Continued pressure on the kidnappers, coupled with the extensive presence of armed security personnel in the area, compelled the assailants to abandon the victims,” Fanwo explained.
He noted that security forces would remain in the area as operations continue, emphasizing the government’s commitment to holding criminals accountable. “Our resolve is clear: anyone who engages in criminal activity in Kogi State will face the full weight of the law,” Fanwo added.
The Commissioner confirmed that the rescued individuals, including a school principal, a NECO official, and two students, are in good health and currently undergoing debriefing and medical checks with security agencies.
Fanwo praised the professionalism and bravery of the Nigerian Army, DSS, police, local security operatives, and all agencies involved in the rescue operation, highlighting their swift response as a testament to effective inter-agency collaboration in combating insecurity.
Additionally, he expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his ongoing support for the state’s security initiatives.
