Abia State University Suspends Senior Lecturer Amid Allegations

UTURU, Nigeria — Kingsley Izuogu, a senior lecturer in the Department of Mass Communication at Abia State University (ABSU), has been suspended by the university’s administration amid allegations of extortion, harassment of students, and forgery of academic credentials.

The suspension, announced this week, follows claims that Izuogu charged students for course handouts and requested payment for passing grades in courses he teaches. He has denied these allegations, asserting his innocence.

This action comes as a separate investigation by the Abia State government into corruption at the university remains ongoing, with no conclusion or findings reported as of yet.

The suspension has sparked varied reactions from students and parents; some have praised the university’s decision, while others believe that management should have awaited the outcomes of the state’s investigation.

Chijioke Nwogu, the Public Relations Officer for Abia State University, confirmed the suspension to Daily Post on Wednesday, stating, “Yes. Suspended.”

As developments unfold, the university community continues to discuss the implications of this decision.
