Yola Court Remands 47 Suspects in Adamawa State
YOLA, Adamawa State — The Chief Magistrate Court 2 in Yola has ordered the remand of 47 suspects following their arrest during a recent security operation in the northern town of Mubi. The operation, which targeted criminal hideouts, resulted in a total of 73 arrests for various offences.
The suspects were arraigned in two groups. Police prosecutor Inspector Ahmed Abubakar presented the first group of 23 defendants, accusing them of engaging in criminal conspiracy, armed robbery, kidnapping, terrorism, and other related crimes.
Abubakar further alleged that the defendants had armed themselves with dangerous weapons and had been involved in violent activities. He also cited instances of distributing and consuming illegal substances, including tramadol and substances believed to be marijuana, which reportedly led to disturbances in the Mubi North and Mubi South local government areas.
Items recovered during the operation included army face caps, imitation police identity cards, and various weapons such as machetes and knives.
The prosecutor requested that bail be denied, emphasizing that the investigation remains ongoing and that the serious nature of the charges requires legal guidance from the state Ministry of Justice.
Meanwhile, another group of 24 defendants was arraigned by ASP Ezra Bulus, with all individuals being remanded to a correctional facility pending further proceedings.
