One dead, several homes damaged after heavy downpour in Kebbi
One person has died, and several homes were destroyed following severe weather in the Shanga Local Government Area of Kebbi State. The incident occurred on the night of September 7, 2026, between approximately 11:30 p.m. and midnight.
The heavy rainfall, accompanied by strong winds, affected Shanga town, ’Yar Besse, and surrounding communities, resulting in extensive property damage. Abubakar Aliyu Shanga, Special Adviser to the Kebbi State Governor on New Media, issued a statement on Tuesday detailing the destruction.
The report indicated that the severe weather caused multiple houses to collapse and significant loss of property. Abdullahi Abdullahi Mai Anguwa, the chairman of Shanga Local Government Area, visited the impacted regions to assess the damage. He is expected to submit a report on the situation to the Kebbi State governor.
