President Bola Tinubu welcomed Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke to the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Thursday. The visit marked the official presentation of Adeleke’s Certificate of Return following his recent re-election.
Adeleke, who secured his re-election on August 15 as a member of the Accord Party, arrived at the Villa at 5:25 PM. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared him the winner of the governorship election after he garnered 511,067 votes, defeating his nearest opponent, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who received 444,815 votes.
President Tinubu personally congratulated Adeleke on his electoral success, characterizing the result as “a fitting assurance that democracy will continue to flourish in our country.” He encouraged the governor to foster unity among Osun residents, regardless of their political affiliations.
Several officials from Osun State accompanied Adeleke, arriving at 5:40 PM. Those in attendance included Senator Lere Oyewumi, the Director-General of Adeleke’s Campaign Council; Mr. Sunday Bisi, a member of the Council; Akinleye Kazeem, the Chief of Staff to the Governor; and Bamidele Salam, a member of the House of Representatives representing the Ede North/Ede South/Egbedore/Ejigbo Federal Constituency.
Adeleke’s victory in the recent election is a notable event in Osun politics. He triumphed in 19 of the state’s 30 local government areas, while Oyebamiji won in 11, indicating a highly competitive election that garnered significant attention.
This re-election bid was particularly significant as Adeleke chose to run with the Accord Party after the Osun chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) endorsed his candidacy and supported his re-election efforts.
The meeting with President Tinubu is raising considerable political interest, especially as political realignments accelerate in anticipation of the 2027 general elections. This engagement coincides with the President’s recent discussions with various political leaders and senior government officials as preparations intensify for the upcoming election season.
