APC Campaign Council: Meet 14 governors tasked with delivering Tinubu in 2027
As the 2027 general elections draw near, political parties in Nigeria are intensifying preparations, with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) aiming to maintain the presidency and solidify its influence throughout the country.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially commenced the electioneering season for 2027, enabling political parties to present their manifestoes, campaign strategies, and commitments to voters.
In this context, the APC unveiled its Presidential Campaign Council on Saturday. The council comprises 14 serving governors who will assume various roles to mobilize support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the party’s presidential candidate seeking re-election.
Deputy Director-General, North I — Mai Mala Buni
Mai Mala Buni, born November 19, 1967, is the Governor of Yobe State, a position he has held since 2019. He previously served as the National Secretary of the APC and was re-elected in the 2023 governorship election, defeating Sheriff Abdullahi of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Prior to his political career, Buni was involved in business and served on the boards of several companies.
Secretary — Hope Uzodimma
Hope Uzodimma, born December 12, 1958, is the Governor of Imo State. He assumed office in January 2020 after a Supreme Court ruling reversed the 2019 election results in favor of Emeka Ihedioha of the PDP. Uzodimma was re-elected in 2023 and has also served as Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum.
Zonal Campaign Coordinator, South-South — Bassey Otu
Bassey Edet Otu, commonly known as Sweet Prince, is the Governor of Cross River State. He previously represented the Calabar Municipality/Odukpani Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives and served as a Senator for Cross River South from 2011 to 2015. Throughout his legislative career, Otu held significant committee positions, including those related to petroleum resources and finance.
Zonal Campaign Coordinator, South-East — Peter Mbah
Peter Ndubuisi Mbah is the Governor of Enugu State. A lawyer and businessman, he is the founder of Pinnacle Oil and Gas Ltd. Mbah served as Chief of Staff and later as Commissioner for Finance in Enugu State before being elected governor on the PDP ticket in 2023. He defected to the APC in October 2025.
Zonal Campaign Coordinator, South-West — Babajide Sanwo-Olu
Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu has been the Governor of Lagos State since 2019. He became the APC candidate in 2018 after winning a primary contest and subsequently won the governorship election in 2019. Sanwo-Olu was re-elected in 2023 and has prior experience as Managing Director of the Lagos State Property Development Corporation.
Zonal Campaign Coordinator, North-Central — Umar Bago
Mohammed Umar Bago is the Governor of Niger State, having taken office in May 2023. A former House of Representatives member, Bago served as Chairman of the House Committee on Maritime Safety, Education, and Administration before winning the governorship election as the APC candidate in 2023.
Zonal Campaign Coordinator, North-West — Uba Sani
Uba Sani is the Governor of Kaduna State. Formerly a senator representing Kaduna Central, he has a background in political advisory roles at both federal and state levels. Sani was elected governor in 2023 after winning the APC primary election.
Director, Finance/Treasurer — Sheriff Oborevwori
Sheriff Francis Orohwedor Oborevwori is the Governor of Delta State. Prior to his governorship, he was the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly. He won the 2023 election under the PDP but joined the APC in April 2025.
Deputy Director, Finance/Treasurer I — Ahmed Usman Ododo
Ahmed Usman Ododo is the Governor of Kogi State and assumed office in 2024. Previously, he served as Auditor-General for Local Governments in Kogi State and is a trained accountant.
Director, Fundraising — Dapo Abiodun
Dapo Abiodun, the Governor of Ogun State, is also a member of the APC. An accountant and businessman, he previously held the position of Chairman of the Corporate Affairs Commission before his election as governor in 2019.
Director, Labour Union Relations — Nasir Idris
Nasir Idris is the Governor of Kebbi State and was formerly a labour leader, having served as President of the Nigeria Union of Teachers and Deputy President of the Nigeria Labour Congress. He was victorious in the APC governorship primaries ahead of the 2023 elections.
Zonal Coordinator, Stakeholders’ Mobilisation, North-East — Inuwa Yahaya
Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya has been the Governor of Gombe State since 2019. With prior experience as Commissioner for Finance and Economic Development, he was re-elected in 2023.
Stakeholders’ Mobilisation — Umo Eno
Umo Bassey Eno is the Governor of Akwa Ibom State. Before ascending to the governorship, he served as Commissioner for Lands and Water Resources and was involved in business and ministry. Eno won the 2023 election on the PDP platform but joined the APC in June 2025.
Stakeholders’ Mobilisation — Dauda Lawal
Dauda Lawal, the Governor of Zamfara State, previously worked as a banker and executive director. He won the 2023 governorship election under the PDP, marking the first victory for the PDP in Zamfara since the 1999 return to democracy. His recent alignment with the APC reflects the party’s expansion efforts leading up to the 2027 elections.
This structure of leadership is crucial as the APC prepares for the upcoming elections, signaling the party’s strategy to leverage established political figures to enhance its prospects in the general elections.
