APC National Secretary mocks Atiku for sleeping at Ibadan summit

APC Secretary Critiques Atiku After Opposition Summit

Ajibola Basiru, the National Secretary of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), has criticized former Vice President Atiku Abubakar following a summit of opposition parties in Ibadan, Oyo State, on Saturday.

During the summit, leaders from various opposition political parties convened to discuss the possibility of presenting a unified presidential candidate for the 2027 general election. Notable attendees included Abubakar, who was the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in 2023; Peter Obi; former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi; and former Kwara State Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed.

Basiru posted a photograph on social media appearing to show Abubakar asleep at the event. Accompanying the image, he wrote, “And the opposition leader slept at the all-important opposition summit.”

In addition, Basiru referenced the same photo in response to claims on social media that the APC was unsettled by the opposition leaders’ discussions concerning collaboration for the upcoming election.

The summit in Ibadan is part of ongoing dialogues among opposition leaders as they seek to form a stronger alliance ahead of the 2027 elections. Political realignments continue to evolve across party lines in the lead-up to the election.
