Army dismisses Boko Haram, ISWAP attack alert as fake
The Nigerian Army has dismissed a recent intelligence alert circulating on social media that claims Boko Haram and ISWAP are planning attacks on schools, churches, mosques, NYSC orientation camps, and other public institutions across the country.
Colonel Appolonia Anele, the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, stated that the document in question did not originate from the Nigerian Army and is, therefore, unverified and fake.
Anele acknowledged that the Army is aware of the document’s circulation and has increased vigilance across its formations and commands to safeguard vulnerable facilities.
Describing the intelligence alert as speculation, she urged the public not to consider it an official security notice from the Army.
The dismissal follows the dissemination of a document purportedly signed by an individual named A.M. Sodiq. This document alleged that Boko Haram and ISWAP were planning coordinated attacks in various regions of the country, listing potential targets, including churches, schools, and NYSC orientation camps. It further claimed that suspected ISWAP operatives had begun surveilling selected locations, with possible attacks coinciding with the start of the 2026/2027 academic session.
The Army has reaffirmed that no such document was produced by its institution and assured the public that its security formations are on heightened alert, implementing necessary measures to protect schools, places of worship, and other vulnerable public facilities.
