Army troops foil multiple ISWAP infiltration attempts in Borno

Nigerian Army Foils ISWAP Infiltration Attempts in Borno State
Troops from the Joint Task Force North East, operating under Operation HADIN KAI, successfully repelled coordinated infiltration attempts by suspected Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists targeting Maiduguri and the Buratai area of Borno State.
The Nigerian Army announced the thwarted attacks in a statement on X on Friday. The incidents occurred between 12:20 a.m. and 2:30 a.m. when insurgents launched simultaneous assaults toward Muna Garage, Shuwari Village, and the Ajilari Cross area. Their objective appeared to be breaching the defenses of Maiduguri.
The army reported that its forces, aided by an effective early warning system, detected the insurgents’ movements and engaged them from multiple directions with precise fire. This tactical response successfully disrupted the attackers before they could infiltrate the city.
The statement indicated that the terrorists, overpowered by the military’s prompt actions, abandoned their mission and fled in disorder. In related operations, troops also repelled separate infiltration attempts at Miringa and Dutsen Kura in Buratai.
During a pursuit at Miringa, a Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicle triggered an improvised explosive device (IED). Fortunately, there were no casualties reported among the troops, and the operational situation remained stable.
The military affirmed that Operation HADIN KAI would persist in conducting offensive operations to restrict terrorist movements and protect lives and property across the North East. It urged residents to remain vigilant and to provide timely, credible intelligence to support counter-terrorism efforts.
