Why I refused to go to National Assembly after two terms as Rivers Gov – Wike

FCT Minister Nyesom Wike stated that he chose not to pursue a Senate seat following his second term as governor of Rivers State due to concerns about the limitations on his ability to express his opinions.
During the commissioning of a pedestrian bridge at the Dunamis International Gospel Centre in Abuja on Friday, Wike explained his decision. He noted that many former governors seek to transition to the National Assembly, but he opted against it, citing a desire for unrestricted expression.
“Many governors today, when they are done, they want to go to the National Assembly, but I said that I won’t go. They asked me why, and I said I would be prevented from speaking my mind,” Wike said. “Since I won’t be able to speak my mind, there is no need for me to go there. That is true. Everybody has forgotten what this country was before now.”
Wike emphasized his commitment to voicing his thoughts on national issues, regardless of his position. He urged both political and religious leaders to prioritize effective leadership that benefits the populace.
