Attention should now be shifted to Borno -Ndume reacts to rescued Oyo schoolchildren, teachers

Senator Ali Ndume Calls for Military Focus on Borno Amid Oyo Rescues
Borno South Senator Ali Ndume has urged the military to redirect its attention to his constituency following the recent rescue of schoolchildren and teachers abducted in Oyo State.
In an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Friday, Ndume emphasized the ongoing security crisis in Borno. He pointed out that local residents, including 42 schoolchildren, remain in captivity, highlighting the urgent need for military support in the region.
The group from Oyo was rescued on Tuesday after spending more than 50 days in captivity. Their abduction occurred on May 15, 2026, and was marred by tragedy, including the beheading of one teacher shortly after the attack.
Ndume remarked, “I want to use this opportunity to appeal to the military to shift their attention now to my senatorial district and help us get these people back.” He mentioned that over 30 individuals from Lassa had been recently captured, and more than 50 people remain missing in a separate incident tied to ongoing kidnapping issues in the area. He noted, “They released some out of the 400, and we still have some people in captivity.”
As the situation remains precarious, Ndume’s plea underscores the broader security challenges faced by regions like Borno, which continue to experience high rates of abduction and violence.
