Bandits abduct village head in Kano community

Tension rose in the Aujarawar Alkali community of Gezawa Local Government Area, Kano State, following the abduction of the village’s traditional ruler, Alhaji Ahmad Yakubu Ahmad, also known as Ruwata Midnight.

Witnesses reported that Ahmad was taken during a late-night raid on Thursday, September 17, 2026. Armed bandits, reportedly equipped with sophisticated weaponry, invaded the village and fled with him to an undisclosed location.

Mahi Ismail, a spokesperson for the Zannan Kano and the District Head of Jogana, confirmed the incident in a statement on Friday. He described the abduction as a significant threat to the area’s peace, igniting fear and uncertainty among residents. Families and community leaders have voiced serious concerns about the safety of the village chief.

In response, District Head Alhaji Abdulkadir Ma’aji called for increased efforts by security agencies to secure the safe return of AHmad and to enhance security measures in vulnerable rural communities.

“We appeal to security operatives to strengthen the protection of lives and property and do everything possible to ensure the safe return of our village head,” Ma’aji stated.

He also urged residents to remain calm and law-abiding while supporting security initiatives through vigilance and cooperation with authorities.

Ma’aji expressed hope for the safe release of Alhaji Ahmad and for his prompt return to his family and the community.

As of yet, the Kano Police Command has not released a statement regarding the incident.
