Bauchi State Government Recruits 850 New Healthcare Workers
The Bauchi State Government has announced the recruitment of 850 new personnel to help alleviate workforce shortages at primary healthcare centers throughout the state.
Dr. Rilwanu Mohammed, Executive Chairman of the Bauchi State Primary Healthcare Development Board, made the announcement on Friday during an orientation and documentation session for the new hires at the board’s headquarters in Bauchi.
The need for the recruitment arose from vacancies created by the retirement, passing, and voluntary departure of several healthcare professionals from the state’s service. Dr. Mohammed noted that this initiative is part of a phased strategy to enhance the healthcare workforce. Earlier, Governor Bala Mohammed approved the hiring of 151 volunteer workers for similar purposes.
Additionally, Dr. Mohammed revealed that plans are in place to employ another 175 healthcare workers, including nurses, midwives, and community health workers, who will begin duties shortly.
Following consultations with local government chairpersons, the board sought and received government approval to recruit 850 staff members across the state. The appointments are intended to replace employees who have exited the service.
The distribution of the new workers is based on the specific manpower needs of each of the 20 local government areas, taking into account the number of staff who have left. Areas such as Misau, Kirfi, and Warji received fewer replacement slots, with Misau recording 18 retirements, Kirfi and Warji recording 18 and 19, respectively. The board’s headquarters will receive 92 personnel, while local government allocations vary from 46 to 70 staff.
Dr. Mohammed confirmed that the verification and documentation of successful applicants have been completed, with engagement letters marking the final stage of the recruitment process. In his remarks to the new recruits, he emphasized their role in enhancing healthcare services for residents, particularly those relying on primary healthcare facilities.
“As of today, you officially become staff of the Bauchi State Government,” Mohammed stated, encouraging the recruits to remain dedicated to their duties and deliver quality services to the community.
The chairman acknowledged Governor Bala Mohammed for the approval of the recruitment, stating that this action reflects the administration’s commitment to improving healthcare services statewide.
Samaila Itimiya Liman, Permanent Secretary of the board, urged the recruits to take their new appointments seriously and adhere to their official obligations. He noted that the recruits were selected following necessary validation and documentation processes and encouraged them to view their roles as an opportunity to serve the public.
Some recruits expressed gratitude to the state government for the opportunity and committed to working diligently to enhance primary healthcare delivery throughout Bauchi State.
