DSS arrests suspected gun courier in Kano

Kano State: DSS Arrests Suspected Gun Courier
Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) have apprehended a 30-year-old man, Muhammad Abubakar, suspected of being a gun courier in Kano State.
The arrest took place in the Gezawa Local Government Area after authorities received an intelligence tip-off. The DSS reported that Abubakar, who operates as a transporter, was in the process of delivering four RPG tubes, three AK-47 rifles, and two empty magazines to a location in Funtua, Katsina State.
During interrogation, Abubakar stated he received the firearms from an individual named Bello in the Maigatari border area of Jigawa State for delivery to an area known for insecurity. He also disclosed that he was promised 450,000 naira upon successful delivery.
When questioned by reporters, Abubakar described this incident as his first engagement in such activities. He expressed remorse and noted that he originally declined the request but was eventually convinced after a week of persistent pressure from Bello.
“I come from Mokwa in Niger State, where I usually transport passengers to Kano and back to Abuja or Mokwa,” Abubakar said. “I didn’t know Bello well, as our communication was solely via phone. We met in person for the first time just before this incident.”
The suspect explained that although he could not recall the name of the person to whom he was to deliver the firearms, he was given the individual’s phone number.
“I understand the guns were intended for robbery, but I felt destined to be caught in this situation,” he added.
The DSS has announced that Abubakar will face prosecution. Authorities are working with other security agencies to locate any accomplices involved in the case.
The investigation remains ongoing.
