Ebonyi State Governor Implements Cabinet Reshuffle
Abakaliki, Ebonyi State — On Monday, the Governor of Ebonyi State, Francis Nwifuru, announced a minor reshuffle within his cabinet, aimed at enhancing governance and reinforcing the administration’s achievements.
The changes were disclosed by Barrister Ikeuwa Omebeh, the Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, during a press briefing following the State Executive Council meeting.
Omebeh indicated that the reshuffle was prompted by the recent appointments of two new commissioners, Professor Omari Omaka and Hon. Sylvester Nwenu Nwite, as well as the inauguration of Hon. Felix Onyekachi Njoku as Special Assistant to the Governor on Youth Mobilization.
During his remarks, Governor Nwifuru urged the newly appointed officials to view their roles as a commitment to public service and to actively contribute to the administration’s People’s Charter of Needs agenda.
Key changes in the cabinet included Chidiebere Onya’s reassignment from the Ministry of Solid Mineral Development to the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, and Dr. Ngozi Obichukwu’s move from the Ministry of Aviation to the Ministry of Special Projects.
New commissioner Hon. Sylvester Nwenu Nwite will oversee the Ministry of Environment, while Professor Omari Omaka has been appointed Commissioner for Tertiary Education.
Additionally, Professor Ajuka Obasi Nwogo has transitioned from the Ministry of Market Development to the Ministry of Skill Acquisition. Okwu Oko Udu will now head the Ministry of Market Development, and Magnus Chinedu Nka has moved from the Ministry of Water Resources to the Ministry of Solid Mineral Development. Victor Uzoma Chukwu has been reassigned from the Ministry of Environment to the Ministry of Water Resources.
Further transfers include Prince Richard Idike from the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development to the Ministry of Capital City and Urban Development, and Sunday Elechi Inyima’s shift from the Ministry of Capital City and Urban Development to the Ministry of Project Monitoring.
Governor Nwifuru has mandated that the handover processes be completed by the end of business on Tuesday, June 30, 2026.
Several commissioners will retain their current positions, including Barr. Ben Uruchi Odoh (Justice), Stanley Ogbuewu (Culture and Tourism), Dr. Donatus Ilang (Primary and Secondary Education), Prince Elechi Nnanna Elechi (Trade and Investment), and others.
Responding to inquiries regarding the motivation behind the reshuffle, Omebeh stated that it was not initiated due to poor performance. Rather, he emphasized that the adjustments were intended to optimize the expertise and skills of the cabinet members for the benefit of the state.
He also clarified that, despite the reassignment of its commissioner, the Ministry of Aviation remains operational under its existing administrative structure, led by the Permanent Secretary.
Omebeh reiterated the administration’s commitment to effective service delivery, asserting that the reshuffle is designed to invigorate governance and improve the implementation of government policies across all sectors.
