Ebonyi Govt denies budgeting ₦16bn for Abuja Liaison Office

Ebonyi State Government Rejects Claims of ₦16 Billion Budget for Abuja Liaison Office

The Ebonyi State Government has categorically denied allegations suggesting that it has allocated ₦16 billion for the operation of its Abuja Liaison Office. In a statement released by Leo Ekene-Oketa, Special Assistant to the Governor on New Media, the government characterized these claims, made by Chika Nwoba, as “malicious, fictitious, and deliberately misleading.”

According to the statement, the state owns property in the Central Business District of Abuja, which previously housed a 12-storey building that was demolished by the government in 2016. The ₦16 billion cited in the 2026 budget, the aide clarified, is earmarked for the development and redevelopment of this state-owned property, designed to benefit the citizens of Ebonyi.

Additionally, Oketa noted that the actual recurrent expenditure for the Abuja Liaison Office has remained consistent over the years, with personnel and operational costs estimated at approximately ₦77 million.

Reaffirming the administration’s commitment to transparency and prudent fiscal management, Oketa emphasized that Governor Nwifuru is dedicated to sustainable infrastructural development throughout Ebonyi State. He urged the public to ignore misleading narratives and to consult verified official communications regarding government finances and projects.
