Edo Police apprehend 22 over alleged kidnapping, murder, defilement, armed robbery
The Edo State Police Command has apprehended 22 individuals suspected of involvement in various criminal activities, including kidnapping, murder, defilement, and armed robbery.
In a statement released to journalists in Benin City, the command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Eno Ikoedem, explained that these arrests resulted from coordinated operations with other security agencies. Ikoedem also noted that one alleged kidnapper was killed, while another was captured during these efforts.
Among those detained are nine individuals suspected of armed robbery, seven implicated in murder, and one linked to defilement. Furthermore, security operatives successfully rescued five victims of kidnapping, which included a woman and her three children.
Ikoedem emphasized that these recent achievements highlight the command’s ongoing commitment to intelligence-led policing, crime prevention, and the safeguarding of lives and property within the state.
Detailing the activities of August 30, 2026, the police spokesperson reported that a team from the Ugbor Division, in collaboration with the Edo State Security Corps, acted on credible intelligence to arrest the nine alleged armed robbers at approximately 7:30 a.m. This operation targeted a notorious 15-member gang accused of instilling fear among residents in the Benin City area.
